ANNOUNCEMENT SUNDAY 2017 AT ST. DOROTHY

Next weekend is Commitment Weekend for the 2017 Together in Mission campaign. For those of you who are new to our parish or to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Together in Mission campaign is the annual appeal to assist the Catholic parishes and/or schools in the poorest areas of Los Angeles who are in greatest need of financial assistance.

GOAL OF TOGETHER IN MISSION

In 1993, when Cardinal Mahony, in collaboration with the priests of Los Angeles, began the Together in Mission Campaign the goal of the funds raised was TO ASSIST IN MAINTAINING A CATHOLIC PRESENCE in the areas of the Archdiocese where the parishes and schools were not able to financially survive on their own. This is still the goal some 20 years later.

TOGETHER IN MISSION IS A TOTALLY RESTRICTED ACCOUNT

Together in Mission is a totally RESTRICTED appeal, the only one in the United States, which means that the money raised can ONLY be used to support those parishes and schools in dire financial need.

WHO WILL TOGETHER IN MISSION BENEFIT IN 2017

When you give to Together in Mission 2017, you are providing for ministry, education, and services in 81 Archdiocesan parishes and 80 parish schools. You are directly helping to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, to thousands of people.

WHY SHOULD I GIVE TO TOGETHER IN MISSION?

The most frequently asked question is:"Why should I give to the Together in Mission Campaign?" Part of the answer is that Together in Mission provides an opportunity for each of us to SHARE the financial gifts and blessings that God has given to us with our struggling brothers and sisters here at home.

The Catholic Church is NOT a Congregational Church. All CATHOLICS need to hear and understand this fact. Every time we say the Creed, we affirm the fact that we are members of the “ONE HOLY, CATHOLIC, AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH.” In essence we are saying that EVERY parish and EVERY parishioner is responsible not only for his or her parish, but also for the well-being of the Church throughout the Archdiocese and for that matter throughout the World.

Is there a Connection between the Celebration of the Eucharist and Together in Mission? YES! A final reason to support Together in Mission and maybe the most powerful is that your contribution to Together in Mission demonstrates that you FULLY understand the Eucharist.

Each year the Together in Mission appeal assists those parishes and schools in our own Archdiocese that are in the gravest need. These poor and needy are the Body of Christ. It would be inconsistent to share in the Body of Christ (the Eucharist) at Mass and ignore the Body of Christ (the poor) in our own backyard.

2016 RESULTS AND THANK YOUS

For the 1st time in our 9 years St. Dorothy achieved our 2016 Parish Goal of $84,200. We thank the 423 families that contributed to our successful 2016 Together In Mission campaign.

PARISH GOALS FOR 2017

The theme for this year's Together In Mission Campaign is "Be the Light of Christ”. It is with great hope that we will achieve our Archdiocesan goal of $15.9 million and our ST. DOROTHY PARISH GOAL OF $84,200 which represents 10% of our 2015 Annual Sunday collections.

2017 PARTICIPATION GOALS: 650 FAMILIES

Last year, we increased our parish participation from 317 families in 2015 to 423 out of approximately 2,400 registered families at St. Dorothy. This equates to just 17% of families. I think we can do better. This year our goal is a minimum of 650 families to contribute to this most worthwhile of charities.

SUGGESTED Together In Mission DONATION

$10.00 PER MONTH FOR 5 MONTHS

We realize that these economic times are not easy so we are asking for a greater and broader participation and support this year so that the few do not have to carry the burden of the many. Moreover, if we all give a little, we will surely meet our goal.

Therefore, we are asking each FAMILY to prayerfully discern a contribution of a minimum of $10.00 per month, per family (not individual) payable over 5 months, which works out to $50. Surely this would not be an undue burden. However, please know that any size pledge is a welcome gift and that no pledge is too small and all gifts are tax deductible.

Prayer of the Penitent

Lord Jesus Christ,

you are the Lamb of God;

you take away the sins of the world.

Through the grace of the Holy Spirit

restore me to friendship with your Father,

cleanse me from every stain of sin

in the blood you shed for me,

and raise me to new life

for the glory of your name.  Amen.

Lord God,

in your goodness have mercy on me:

do not look on my sins,

but take away all my guilt.

Create in me a clean heart

and renew within me an upright spirit.  Amen.

Love Your Enemies

Love your enemies.—Matthew 5:38-48

Can you picture getting to heaven, and the first person you meet is the one you liked least on earth? It’s possible.

After all, God loves that person just as much as he loves you.

About Our Church

Welcome to the website of St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Glendora, CA.

On this site there is information about our church and location, our schools and care facility. You will also find our history, and the most important aspect of our life together, the celebration of the sacraments.

We are an active Christian faith community. We are a parish within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Over the years, the parish has been served by religious orders as well as by diocesan priests.

We are equally blessed by a tremendous diversity among our parishioners. We have a large age range from babies and school children to the retired and elderly. As well, ethnic communities bring a richness to our parish. We believe that no matter what our age, culture or ethnicity we are brothers and sisters and together form the Body of Christ, the church in this place and time.
